The winter holidays are a magical time for many reasons. For one, winter is one of the best times of the year to stay inside and enjoy some movie magic! Hollywood drops some of the biggest hits toward the end of the year, giving us plenty of reasons to stay indoors as the weather cools. Here are six movies you won’t want to miss while you’re spending time with family and friends this winter!


1 – Last Christmas


This romantic comedy kicks off when Kate (Emilia Clarke) takes a job as a department store elf during the holiday season. With job problems, family problems, and health problems adding up, all the bad luck is starting to make her cynical. When she meets Tom (Henry Golding), though, her life starts to change. Directed by Paul Feig of Bridesmaids, this film is sure to bring plenty of laughs and holiday cheer between heartfelt moments. It’s scheduled for a November 8 release date, and might be the perfect way to welcome the holiday season.


2 – Frozen 2


Frozen 2 is scheduled for release on November 22, just in time to help us all transition from Thanksgiving into the holiday season. Elsa begins to hear a strange sound calling her to the north, and she begins an exploration with some of our favorite characters from the first Frozen movie. Along with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven, Elsa leaves Arendelle behind her to find the source of her magic and potentially save the entire kingdom.


3 – Jumanji: The Next Level


If you’re looking for a break from all of the holiday themes, head to the jungle with Dwayne Johnson any time starting on December 13! Four heroes brave the elements and dangerous beasts to save Jumanji’s exciting video game world. This movie is perfect for adults who are nostalgic for the original Jumanji, and it’s also sure to entertain the next generation.


4 – Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker


The next installment of this legendary movie dynasty is scheduled for a December 20 release, just in time for holiday break. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega join Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill to tell another chapter of George Lucas’ famous story. Directed by J.J. Abrams, this movie is sure to be absolutely packed with action and state of the art special effects. Get your tickets today! 

5 – Cats


Cats comes out on the same day as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, so you may want to plan a day at your local movie theater for a double feature. It’s based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, which has already made quite a name for itself. The star-studded cast includes Taylor Swift, Francesca Hayward, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, and Idris Elba. If you loved the musical, you’ve got to see this movie!


6 – Black Christmas


If your heart isn’t already pounding from the new Jumanji movie, go get your adrenaline fix from Black Christmas, which will also be released on December 13. It’s a remake of the 1974 horror movie with the same title. A killer takes on sorority women at Hawthorne College, but isn’t anticipating how much they’re prepared to fight back.
