8 Movies Coming Summer 2018 to Look Forward To

For fans of summer movies, 2018 has a lot to offer you. From gala heists to size-defying superheroes, there is definitely a flick for every type of movie fan hitting the silver screen this summer. Here are eight of the best upcoming movies you can look forward to watching this summer.

Ocean’s 8

  • Release Date: June 8

This female-led spinoff of George Clooney’s popular Ocean’s Eleven trilogy stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, and Anne Hathaway. Instead of robbing a Las Vegas casino, however, Debbie Ocean, played by Bullock, assembles a team to pull of an incredibly risky heist: robbing the Met Gala in New York City. They plan to target a celebrity and the Met’s curator, echoing the premise of the first Ocean’s film. Fans of the original series can keep their eyes peeled for Matt Damon and Carl Reiner to briefly reprise their roles from the original Ocean’s trilogy.

  • Release Date: June 8

If you are looking for summer 2018 movies that can terrify you, you cannot miss Hereditary. Early reviews have called it the scariest movie of the year, as a matriarch’s ancestry begins to haunt her family. Featuring an impressive cast, including Toni Collette and Gabriel Byrne, the film was initially screened at Sundance before it was picked up for wider release. The supernatural force left behind after the death of the matriarch focuses on a teenage girl, the daughter of Collette’s Annie. The film currently has a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, largely thanks to its success at Sundance.

The Incredibles 2

  • Release Date: June 15

After 14 long years, the Incredibles finally return to the big screen. The sequel picks up right after the original left off, with Mr. Incredible taking the stay-at-home Dad role and Elastigirl leading a team of heroes. The original cast, including Holly Hunter and Samuel L. Jackson, return to reprise their roles. Producers have not given away too much of the plot, though they have said that movie’s focus is more on family dynamics rather than super heroics, leaving many worried about the fate of the Incredible family.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

  • Release Date: June 22

Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jeff Goldblum return to the Jurassic series, this time to save the dinosaurs from the threat of a volcanic eruption. Fallen Kingdom takes place four years after the end of Jurassic World, with Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire now leading a Dinosaur Protection Group, focused on relocating and saving the beasts from extinction yet again. Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, joins the cause, and they begin to unravel a global conspiracy.

The First Purge

  • Release Date: July 4

The prequel to 2013’s The Purge and the fourth movie in the Purge franchise dives into the past, showing the history of the Purge. It features Lex Scott Davis, Luna Lauren Velez, and Marisa Tomei. As a theory about venting aggression is tested, the New Founding Fathers of America must then deal with violence in one community spreading across the nation. Fans of the franchise can expect to see some interesting insight into the reasons why the purge began.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

  • Release Date: July 6

Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas reprise their roles in the sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man. As Ant-Man and Wasp deal with various foes, Wasp and her father must deal with the return of his long-lost wife, who has come back from the quantum realm. Fans can also expect to see some of the fall-outs from the Infinity War, though producers have been very tight-lipped about plot details.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!

  • Release Date: July 20

Most of the original cast, including Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, return for the sequel. Lily James also joins the cast as a younger version of Donna, the character played by Streep. Fans can expect to see more Abba songs sung by your favorite movie legends.

Mission: Impossible Fallout

  • Release Date: July 27

Tom Cruise returns to the Mission Impossible franchise once again to try and save the world against impossible odds. This time, he must also deal with the CIA questioning his loyalty, assassins trying to taking him down, and former allies betraying him to the highest bidder. Rebecca Ferguson and Simon Pegg return, reprising their roles from the earlier films.
