Moonlight is a movie that film buffs will be talking about for years to come. This groundbreaking film deserves all of the hype, shining brightest in its performances which include singer-turned-actress Janelle Monáe and new comer (and best supporting actor front-runner) Mahershala Ali.

Manchester by the Sea

An epic family drama starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams, Manchester by the Sea is the story of a reluctant uncle who becomes the guardian of his teenage nephew when his brother dies unexpectedly.

This film has gained a lot of traction since winning big at this year’s Golden Globes so see it on the big screen before its makes a splash at this year’s Oscars.

Lion

Another epic family drama, Lion revolves around an Indian boy who gets lost on a train trip which takes him far from his home city and loved ones. He is eventually adopted by an Australian family, but returns to India as an adult in search of his lost family.

This is Dev Patel’s return to the award circuit after the successes of Slumdog Millionaire and Lion is proving to be another film you don’t want to miss.

Hidden Figures

Hidden Figures is the previously untold story of the work that several brilliant African-American women did at NASA during the Space Race. This film has become a mainstay at the box office with its inspirational message and fight for change.

Having already won many awards this season, Hidden Figures stars Taraji P Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe are expected to continue to bring the film much success.

Fences

With Denzel Washington at the helm, Fences shines a light on average characters living average lives that, through the lens of the camera, come together to create a beautiful story.
